Craig Revel Horwood challenges for Christmas #1 and it’s strictly FAB-U-LOUS

Dance icon, Craig Revel Horwood, joins forces with Riette Austin in the race to Christmas Number One with their new single ‘It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas!’. Released December 2nd, the single was premiered on BBC Radio 2 by Zoe Ball.

Horwood is a British television staple, having starred in all 19 seasons of Strictly Come Dancing as the resident pantomime villain known for his trademarked brand of brutal honesty. Despite being world-renowned for his dance prowess, this is the Strictly-aces first foray into the music business. Having made a name for himself in ballroom, drag, pantomime, television and even on the West End. It seems gunning for Christmas #1 is the natural progression for the master performer. Speaking about the new single, Horwood said: “It’s a simply fun filled FAB-U-LOUS family treat which is catchy and charismatic. We hope everyone will experience the joy and happiness of Christmas with us by dancing around the tree to it!”.

Appearing alongside the star on the single is his best friend – singer Rietta Austin. Critically acclaimed in her own right, Austin adds some dexterity to the performance. Hailing from New Zealand, where Horwood also judges on their version of Strictly. Austin is a member of the Strictly live band – which features some of the world’s most talented session musicians. When asked to comment on the song she said: “Craig and I are so delighted to release our first single. We had so much fun recording it and can’t wait for you to hear it and dance to it! It’s an uplifting toe-tapper, there are jokes, sleigh bells, a killer sax solo and its infectious spirit makes you just want to have a good time. Everything you could ask for during the festive season!”.

Will ‘It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas!’ cement itself in realms of Christmas song royalty like the hits that came before it? We’re talking The Pogues’ ‘Fairytale of New York’ or Wham’s ‘Last Christmas’. Probably not… but these songs are so entrenched in the very fabric of our culture and festivities. ‘It’s Christmas, Merry Christmas! is a fun song we can and around the tree too, let just hope Horwood will spare us a critique on the very special day, December 25th.
