Doctor Who star comes out as bisexual

Doctor Who star, Pearl Mackie, has come out as bisexual.

Mackie played the character of Bill Potts, in Peter Capaldi’s final season.

In an Instagram post to mark the conclusion of Pride month, the 33-year-old wrote: “Proud to be bisexual. Proud to be Black. Proud of all my LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters and everyone in between.

“We matter. You matter. Big love and nuff respect. Happy Pride everyone!”

On her Instagram page she posted a picture of her blowing a kiss and holding a rainbow-coloured cushion.

Mackie played the first lesbian companion in Doctor Who but ever since its revival in 2005 the long-running show has featured many LGBTQ+ characters including Captain Jack Harkness played by John Barrowman, and reptile woman Madame Vastra and her human wife Jenny, played by Neve McIntosh and Catrin Stewart.
