Cricketer slams internet trolls over pregnancy
Former England cricketer Sarah Taylor has responded to social media trolls about her announcement that she and her partner Diana are expecting a child.
Following some unwelcome online comments, she went on to Twitter that she confirmed that they had used IVT (in vitro fertilisation), adding that she did not expect to issue a FAQ when announcing Diana’s pregnancy.
“Yes I am a lesbian, and have been for a very long time,” the 33-year-old tweeted.
“No, it’s not a choice. I am in love and happy, that’s what matters. Every family is different… how it operates and how it looks. Educate yourself before passing judgment. The baby will be loved and supported.”
She went on to post: “We are all brought up differently with differing beliefs, I do not pass judgment on others’. I will, however, pass judgment on hate, mocking and abuse. You do not belong here. Love who you want as long as you’re happy. Thanks to all who sent love and support. Love is love.”
She said that being a mother had always been her partner’s dream.
“The journey hasn’t been an easy one but Diana has never given up. I know she will be the best mum and I’m so happy to be a part of it. Nineteen weeks to go and life will be very different!”
Taylor was one of the best wicketkeepers in the history of women’s cricket and was a member of the winning women’s team at the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
She retired from international cricket in 2019 citing anxiety issues.
