Daniel Radcliffe really “sad” about rift with JK Rowling over trans rights

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has said that he is “really sad” about his rift over trans rights with Harry Potter creator JK Rowling.

Radcliffe’s comments were made to the Atlantic and follows the publication of the Cass Report on gender identity services.

Rowling has suggested that Radcliffe and fellow cast member Emma Watson have “cosied up” to a movement “intent on eroding women’s hard-won rights” and championing the transition of minors.

This follows an earlier rupture in 2020 when Rowling questioned whether trans women were real women.

At the time, Radcliffe who has supported the LGBTQ+ anti-suicide Trevor Project for 12 years said that: “Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo [JK Rowling] or I may have.”

He told the Atlantic: “I wanted to try and help people that had been negatively affected by the comments. And to say that if those are Jo’s views, then they are not the views of everybody associated with the Potter franchise.”
